About the job. Senior support worker is required to lead a well-established team that provides consistent and continuous care to a man in late 20s with autism and learning difficulties in his home in Cambridge. The man receives a direct payment from the local authorities that enables him to live active and independent life with help from support workers who provide 1-to-1, 24 hours a day, 7 days per week support. The carers support the man in his everyday living skills, engage him in community and social enterprises, encourage his physical activities and assure safe and predictable environment that he requires. Support workers work on the shifts 24 hours per week. This includes weekends, a sleep in duty and additional hours when required to cover absence and holidays, hence flexibility of working hours is essential. They are register as self-employed. This is a permanent post subject to two references, the 3 months probationary period and DBS Enhanced Disclosure. Duties. Senior support worker. participates in all activities and duties with the rest of the team, working 24 hours per week shifts. is paid for extra 3 hours a week for administering paperwork in their own time. ensures smooth day-to-day running of the man's life by organising the work of the team and liaising with other companies and people involved in the man's care, including social services and his parents. is responsible for updating and maintenance of care plans and risk assessments. monitors and books staff training. Requirements for a candidate to the post. Extensive experience of working with learning disabilities and preferably autism in residential setting, although additional training will be provided. Confidence in managing potential conflict out in the community and ability to effectively de-escalate stressful situations. Ability to use your own initiative, make decisions and work in accordance with the team and man's parents. Always consider the client's best interest first. The candidate will be caring, kind, reliable and well organised person with excellent communication skills and good level of English and Math. You will undergo a full induction process and shadowing shifts to introduce you to the daily routine and duties.
