    Job Description: The Role - Mechanical Design Engineer. The successful Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for every aspect of mechanical design, from concept to manufacture. You will undertake equipment design work producing 3D models, detailed manufacturing drawings, bills of material, documents to support manufacture, operating and maintenance manuals. You will also work on the development and testing of the equipment and provide ongoing support as necessary. The Company. The Right Person. You will be proficient with 3D SolidWorks and 2D AutoCAD. The ability to design from 1st principles. Have a good understanding of the design process, material selection and standards (especially the machinery directive, CE marking requirements etc. Ability to produce concise, well written technical documentation and communicate effectively on a technical level. Broad knowledge for modern manufacturing processes such as CNC, digitally controlled equipment, CMM or robotics. As well as the above requirements the ideal candidate must have a sound engineering background with a minimum of 4 years experience in the design of either automation equipment or special purpose machinery or jigs and fixtures. Coupled with this experience, the successful Mechanical Design Engineer will require excellent communication skills, both written and oral as well as possessing a high level of self motivation. Knowledge in machine elements such as pneumatics, hydraulics, PLC programming, safety control systems and automation will be most beneficial. The roll requires attention to detail in the processing of purchase orders, sales orders and other commercial agreements to fixed deadlines and within corporate guidelines. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. 1 Covert ad hoc requisitions to purchase orders and send to suppliers via email. 2 Convert material coded requisitions to purchase orders and send to suppliers via email. 3 Expedite orders to ensure continuity of supply. Interrogate SAP to obtain a list of overdue purchase orders and contact suppliers by phone and / or email. Advise internal customers of any issues. 4 Elevate unresolved issues to the relevant buyer. Liaise with operations, planning, technical and engineering departments. Attend daily line walks to ensure all areas are aware of any potential interruptions to supply. 5 Enforce the PCC code of conduct in all commercial relationships. Understand the code of conduct and how it relates to supplier relationships. 6 Ensure the material requirements planning data base is accurately maintained for stores coded items and that additions are in line with the naming policy. Input minimum and maximum stock levels to reflect the link between production demand and supplier lead times. 1000 live records with 500 vendors. 7 Publish departmental metrics – savings, stock outs, stock accuracy, orders processed, variable cost forecast, delivery performance, material price variance. 8 Complete and submit request forms to add and amend vendor details. Each vendor on SAP has 2 codes, one for purchasing and one for finance. A standard form must be completed and authorised by purchasing and finance and then submitted to shared services to amend or add the vendor in SAP. 9 Complete and submit none standard terms requests. Any vendor that will not accept 75 day payment terms must have the non standard terms approved as per the corporate policy. 10 Resolve invoice queries between vendors and the finance team. Hold weekly reviews with the accounts payable team to identify discrepancies between the vendors invoice value and the corresponding purchase order. Contact the vendor to understand the discrepancies and either amend the purchase order or arrange for credits to be made to the values match to enable payment as appropriate. 11 Identify areas of non value added activity and suggest changes to processes to eliminate waste. 12 Administer low value service contracts e.g. mobile phone, stationery and copier contracts. Act as point contact for all internal customers with queries regarding supply and service. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. Worked in an engineering manufacturing environment.
